who
Stephen Soeffky
Stephen Soeffky is an Adelaide made furniture+interior designer, craftsperson and artist. Since finishing a Bachelor of Interior Architecture (2012) and an associateship in the Furniture Design Studio, JamFactory (2014), Soeffky has been using his woodworking and design knowledge to manage a sustainable business specialising in interior space solutions. Over the past decade he has amassed skills in woodworking, metalworking, commercial interior fit-outs, pavilion fabrication, art installation and manages the Adelaide Central School of Art workshop as the technician.
Soeffky has become increasingly aware of the environmental outcomes of craft and manufacturing and has taken responsibility in realising that he has control over his own individual impact. Approaching each design brief with sustainability in mind, Soeffky consciously chooses each medium carefully, selecting local and less impactful materials where possible. He constantly strives to minimise waste, reuse and recycle, and has conversations with clients and likeminded artisans about what better outcomes can be achieved in the future.
At the beginning of 2024 Soeffky participated in a group exhibition, Transformative Repair X JamFactory, which has inspired his next creative impetus, recommencing study with Masters in Design (Sustainable Design). During his studies Soeffky has come to an understanding that designing sustainable furniture is more than just making ecological choices, but more importantly it is about creating furniture that lasts both physically and emotionally. Developing a system that aims to empower other makers to design and create their own sustainable furniture, Soeffky is focused on sharing a message; that everyone can do their own bit for the environment through sustainable created craft.
