Furniture for the OUR future

A co-pilot for meaningful design decisions, with sustainable outcomes. This is for our future and for all of us.

SOEFFKY is about integrating sustainable principles throughout the entire design process.  An invitation of careful consideration, deep understanding, and thoughtful administration; it’s for creatives, creators and creation enthusiasts. This is not about designing furniture for the future; it’s about designing for our future.

Sustainable Principles to add to your Designing genius

This website has been created as part of an ongoing research project, an investigation for implementation of sustainable design principles specifically tailored for use in furniture design. It serves as an easy-to-navigate guide, empowering creators to add depth and meaning to their designs, resulting in the reduction of furniture waste.

the principles

  • You are the reason your work is sustainable. The relationship between the maker and the customer through the object.

  • Finding meaning in your design inspiration. Theorising how to turn your ideas into something valuable.

  • Thinking about the lifespan of your ideas and designing accordingly. Attempting to plan for the foreseeable future.

  • Designing to be built to last. Structural integrity goes hand and hand with ideas of restoration and repair.

  • Planning your furniture project with repair and replaceable parts in mind. Sometimes your projects might need to be broken down and rebuilt.

  • Nurturing the local community and embracing local culture has many sustainable design benefits

  • What happens when your product is no longer able to be used. Think about the environmental impact of its final destination.

  • Pat yourself on the back and look at the good things you’ve done.

“new, sustainable products must look to install new meaning and value in a critical area of human endeavour that, in so many ways, has become directionless and superficial.”

– Jonathan Chapman 2009, Designing for (Emotional) Durability
